| GCC Rio Grande Cement Plant Access Road and Bridge |
This enormous facility, which includes a limestone mine and large storage buildings, is located south of Pueblo east of Interstate 25. The plant employs about 95 people, most of whom are from the Pueblo area. They were hired at the beginning of 2007 and have spent the last 18 months being trained in Pueblo as well as GCC cement plants in Mexico, New Mexico and South Dakota. Project consisted of providing construction-surveying support to SEMA Construction for the construction of an access road to the new GCC Rio Grande cement plant. Up to two-experienced survey crews plus survey managers and CADD support are providing technical support for survey construction layout, GPS layout, and CADD operations. Surveying is provided to support construction of a new concrete roadway, a bridge, guardrail, and drainage structures such as pipes.
These surveying services require a high degree of competence and experience in all aspects of construction surveying and GPS surveying techniques for the construction layout and as-builts. Safety is paramount on this project due to extreme slopes and dangers from heavy machinery. Employees are required to use any pertinent safety equipment whether it is steel-toed footwear or safety harnesses.
