| State Highway No. 40, Berthoud Falls |
Project consisted of construction-surveying support to Lawrence Construction for the re-construction of Colorado State Highway 40, Berthoud pass, in Clear Creek County. The project was completed in 2 years and cost $15,581,000 to complete. Up to two-experienced survey crews plus survey managers and CADD support was provided, technical support for route survey construction layout, GPS layout, and CADD operations. Surveying is provided to support re-construction of the existing roadway, proposed roadway, retaining walls, snow shelves, guardrail, signage, and various drainage structures such as pipes and sediment or detention ponds. These surveying services require a high degree of competence and experience in all aspects of construction surveying and GPS surveying techniques for the construction layout and as-builts. Safety is paramount on this project due to extreme slopes and dangers from heavy machinery.
Employees are required to use any pertinent safety equipment whether it is steel-toed footwear or safety harnesses. Since the project is a Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) project, the surveying work adheres to state and federal tolerances for construction surveying. CDOT engineers do periodic checks of work provided, and require field notes pertaining to anything surveyed at the end of the project. This type of job requires maintaining a working relationship with Lawrence Construction as well as CDOT representatives.
